我的親友知道我對英文老歌頗有涉略，尤其是八九零年代，所以常會問我一些這方面的問題。上禮拜日和幾個老同學聚會的時候，其中一位說他剛在廣播電台上聽到一首滿好聽的英文老歌，但不知道歌名還有是誰唱的，於是哼了一段給我聽，問我知不知道這首歌的相關資訊。
雖然這位同學五音不全(別打我)，但我還是聽得出來他哼的曲子是哪首歌，就是90年代黑人歌手Tevin Campbell(特文·坎貝爾)所唱的Tell Me What You Want Me to Do。這首歌真的很好聽，尤其是副歌高音的部分，旋律的辨識度也很高。
Tell Me What You Want Me to Do收錄在Tevin Campbell於1991年發行的個人首張專輯「T.E.V.I.N.」。這張專輯中總共有五首單曲先後進入Billboard Hot R&B榜前十名，其中主打歌曲Tell Me What You Want Me to Do最後奪下了冠軍；而在Billboard百大單曲榜的最高名次也衝到了第六名，成績不俗。
Tell Me What You Want Me to Do橫跨了四個八度音域(從低音E2到D＃6)，當年才14歲的Tevin Campbell藉由這首歌展示了驚人的唱功，讓他成了備受期待的未來新星。只不過畢竟正值青春期變聲的時期，Tevin的嗓音逐漸低沉、失去了之前的清亮，之後發行的作品成績每況愈下；所以Tell Me What You Want Me to Do不只是他的成名曲，也成了最為人熟悉的代表作了。
