Close to You：Maxi Priest的雷鬼冠軍單曲
先簡單介紹一下雷鬼樂(Reggae)，這是1960年代源自牙買加的一種輕快歡愉、熱情奔放的樂風，重弱音與拍號和其他流行音樂恰好相反，創造出一種獨特的感受。之後又融入了節奏藍調(R&B)、爵士樂(Jazz)、非洲音樂及拉丁美洲音樂的一些元素，七零與八零年代風行全球。
當雷鬼樂逐漸成為主流流行音樂曲風之後，便帶起了一股仿效風潮，比較著名的有英國樂團UB40與史汀大叔(Sting)所屬的警察合唱團等；台灣也有這種曲風的樂團，像Matzka就是。
Maxi Priest(馬西普里斯特)本名Max Alfred Elliott，是牙買加裔的英國歌手，他以R&B的方式演唱雷鬼音樂而著稱，這種風格又被稱為Reggae Fusion(雷鬼融合)，而他可以說是有史以來最成功的Reggae Fusion歌手。
Maxi Priest於1984年發行第一張專輯後成績一直很普通，直到1988年將Cat Stevens的Wild World改編成雷鬼風格而大受好評，終於第一次進入英國單曲排行榜前10名(最高名次為第5)。這首翻唱的Wild World也讓Maxi Priest逐漸開啟他在其他國家的知名度。
在經歷了Wild World的成功之後，Maxi Priest於1990年發行了第五張專輯「Bonafide」。人只要一有成績，信心就會跟著提升；而信心一上升，氣場都會不一樣。Bonafide專輯中的主打歌曲「Close to You」在發行三個月後居然登上了Billboard百大單曲榜冠軍！
因為是以R&B的方式演唱的雷鬼融合曲風，所以Close to You也拿下了Billboard Hot R&B榜的亞軍。其他國家的成績也不差，在德國、奧地利、比利時、荷蘭、澳洲、紐西蘭、瑞士、瑞典等國的流行榜全都進入前10名。在自己國家的英國單曲排行榜最佳成績為第7。
